When Hopewell Valley residents came together to honor and remember the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, they did so in multiple ways.
There were volunteers who placed 2,977 American flags at Woolsey Park to represent each of the lives lost that day on Sept.11, 2001, first responders who escorted a piece of World Trade Center from Hopewell Borough Hall to Capital Health, and residents, local officials, and emergency responders who attended and participated in the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony in Hopewell Township.
Across Hopewell Valley people stopped to participate in commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the North and South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the heroic efforts of passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 who lost their lives attempting to overtake the hijackers of their plane, and those same heroic efforts by first responders and regular Americans at each of the attack sites.
There were more than 100 volunteers who planted American flags in Woolsey Park on Sept. 10 for the close to 3,000 lives lost in the attacks.
On Sept. 11, there was a movement ceremony for a recovered piece of World Trade Center steel where the steel was moved from Hopewell Borough Hall to Capital Health – Hopewell Campus.
For the next year, the Capital Health – Hopewell campus will be the home of World Trade Center steel. In the past year, Hopewell Borough Hall housed the steel.
Each year the steel is moved to a different location in the Hopewell Valley.
The Hopewell Valley Sept. 11 and Emergency Services Memorial Committee organized the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Woolsey Park in Hopewell Township on Sept. 12.
