William Keithler is the newest member of the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education.
He was selected by the school board to represent Hopewell Township after a seat was vacant following former school board member Hope Cotter’s resignation this summer.
Cotter’s resigned was due to relocating from the township to Hopewell Borough.
Heather Pyle, business administrator and school board secretary, administered the oath of office to Keithler during September’s regular meeting.
He is “temporarily” filling Cotter’s seat through January and running this year for the rest of her unexpired term in the Nov. 3 general election.
Additionally, Keithler is the only candidate who filed to run in the general election for the two years left on the unexpired term.
To replace Cotter, the school board asked for letters of interest and resumes. Then school board members interviewed William Herbert, Todd MacDonald, and Keithler as they sought to appoint a replacement.
Keithler ended up securing the appointment to the temporary seat to represent the township.
Previously, he ran in 2025’s race for two open seats to represent the township on the school board.
He is a board member at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, has served as a mentor to active-duty service men and women transitioning out of the military and into civilian careers, and works in the investment office of AIG.
The Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education is a nine-member body which consists of residents from the township, Pennington, and Hopewell Borough.
The township has seven representatives on the board, Pennington and Hopewell Borough each have one representative.
